Review | Kids Ride Shotgun Pro Child MTB Seat

Kids Ride Shotgun have made a name for themselves as a brand that is delivering quality child-focused mountain bike equipment and it’s no secret that we love their gear. The launch of their Shotgun Pro Child MTB Seat earlier this year was another step forward for the New Zealand based mountain biking brand. We’ve had one on test for the last four months and have spent plenty of family time on the trails with it – here’s our thoughts….

Test Results

There’s absolutely no doubt that the Kids Ride Shotgun Pro Child MTB Seat is a step up from the first offering by the kiwi brand. It looks sleek out of the box, well made and the finer details have been considered and polished, all in all it looks like a great piece of kit. It does come at a steeper price point than the Kids Ride Shotgun Seat but the value is clearly seen in the build.

The Kids Ride Shotgun Pro has zero frame contact with a stem to seatpost mounting setup that makes it suitable for absolutely all bikes, e-bikes included. Mounting was super simple, we just removed the bars and stem, popped the KRS spacer on the fork steerer and whacked it back together. After this it was easy to mount and remove in a jiffy – something some child seats don’t have in common with the KRS Pro.

The adjust-ability of the Shotgun Pro is something that we really loved, with tool free adjustment on basically every part of the Pro, making life super simple to dial in your settings. Once it’s setup it’s a set and forget type of deal, but as your mini shredder grows you can make the adjustments as required without needing an engineering degree.

On the trail it performs exceptionally well, with no movement, no loss of stability and an absolutely awesome platform for your little one to fall in love with the world of mountain biking. We tested it on two different bikes, a long travel enduro bike and a trail hardtail; we also threw in a couple of sizes of mini-shredder as well, one two year old and one four year old. Fair to say the results were great.

There’s a special moment when you share something you love with your children, you open their eyes to a whole new experience and you see the wonder and enjoyment spill across their faces. The Kids Ride Shotgun Pro Child MTB Seat delivered this experience and pasted a sneaky grin across both child tester’s faces. The wonder and excitement of hitting the dirt with their dad couldn’t have been clearer and the yelps of joy as they head down the trail are next level.

We’ve been a fan of the Kids Ride Shotgun MTB Seats for a while now and the KRS Pro is a great improvement on an already blockbuster platform. The ability to share time on the trails with your kids while they are so young is something to be cherished, Kids Ride Shotgun allows you to share that experience face to face, without missing a moment…

As always keep the brakes wide open and we’ll see you on the trails…..
