State of Play: Queensland Racing Calendar

Our friend COVID-19 has visited again and it has thrown a spanner in the works of the race calendar. The reality of living in the world we live in is that we must adapt and overcome the challenges we are faced with, all racing fixtures can be changed or moved at short notice. So what does that mean to those of us that want to get between the tape on our bikes in Queensland this year?

By Mike Branch

Unfortunately a snap lock down led to the postponement of all gravity races in South East Queensland for the month of August. The Queensland State DH Championships were postponed, the Queensland Enduro Series was postponed and Rocky Trail Entertainment have put all of their Fox Superflow races on hold in Queensland at the moment. So what does that mean for the rest of the racing calendar?

Will Racing be back in 2021

It is likely that most of the racing will come back online as soon as the current restrictions are eased, at present the lock down has been lifted but the are no allowances for community sport which includes racing for at least the next few weeks. As always with COVID, things are unknown until more information comes to light. All of the organisers are awaiting information relating to the running of events in the South East corner and until we are free to race, it’s a bit of a holding pattern.

Will all the Races be postponed or rescheduled?

At this stage the rest of the racing calendar is up in the air with no real certainty around the events, but it’s likely that scheduled races that have not been disrupted will go ahead if all restrictions lift. Those races that have been postponed may be rescheduled or in some cases cancelled due to calendar requirements. It’s likely that we will have a modified end to the race season that may look a little different to the previous race calendar.

The Final Word

Racing bikes is what many of us love and something we have all become accustomed to enjoying, unfortunately in the current World we live in racing can get disrupted or even cancelled; something that has happened to many aspects of our lives. Adaptability is the way of the future, at least until the World comes back to some semblance of normality, we must be prepared to change our plans. There’s worse things in life than having a race rescheduled or even cancelled and the very fact we can still get on our bikes should be reason enough to smile.

The Series organisers of all the major series in South East Queensland are working hard behind the scenes to get us back racing and it’s something they have all done before. With a bit of luck we can be back between the tape in the next month or so and we’ll keep you updated with everything you need to know to get racing. Until then keep the brakes wide open and see you on the trails…..
