2020 was an odd year for everyone and for us at Brakes Wide Open it was as well, restrictions meant limited racing at the start of the year and some modified seasons for all in Queensland. For Brakes Wide Open it meant a year of growth and expansion of the website with unprecedented traffic and some great support from some great brands and the riding community. We thought it only fair to have a gander at some of the best photos of 2020, our favorite product to review, favorite ride location article and our top video for the year. So settle in for a good read….

Top 5 Photos
There were so many bangers to grace the pages of Brakes Wide Open this year and we are sure that these five are not the only ones worthy of a mention, but nonetheless we must bring it down to five. These are the editors choice and all speak for the lens of the photographer and encompass everything rad about mountain biking….

Product Review of the Year
At Brakes Wide Open we review a lot of products and get to lay our hands on some pretty amazing bits of kit, so when we had to decide on the best product we reviewed this year it was a hard choice. It came down to just two contenders and we struggled to choose between the Fox DHX2 Coil Shock and the Kids Ride Shotgun Seat and Handlebar combo. Ultimately it was the smiles and stoke that the Kids Ride Shotgun brings to a young shredders face that turned our hand and made us settle on a winner.

Video of The Year
In a year when the world turned upside down and many riders were left to try and figure out a way of interact with their fans, 2020 was actually an amazing year for videos. There were some epic edits and some awesome events and it came down to the editors choice again and it’s hard to go past Kyle Strait in ‘I think I’ll have another’.
Favorite Ride Location Article
This year we headed to a few new locations for articles and whilst there are some of our favorite places to ride not on the list, it was articles we produced this year that made the cut. Tewantin made the top of the list as one of the funnest, flowy, scenic and cool riding locations around and whilst it’s far from super gnarly there are some gems if you know where to look.
